We played Merchant of Venus (second edition), the Classic Version. Randy was the first to arrive and we were talking about trying something crunchier, one of the longer games. He and Adam participate in the Monday’s Hudson games meetup, where they played a few lighter games and it seems the mood was for a heavier one. Several were suggested including Puerto Rico, Small World, and The Manhattan Project – these games will need to wait for another game night.
Merchant of Venus (second edition) is a classic Pick-up and Deliver that has been recently re-published by Fantasy Flight Games in a beautifully done presentation. The game can be a bit long (we took 3 hours, including instructions), and it can be even longer if you play the newer version of the game. It takes a while to learn all of the intricacies of the game, I am still learning them. But I think by the end of the game we were all getting to figure out all of the intricacies and interesting/different paths towards victory that made the game a classic. Hopefully we will all get a chance to play it in the future (maybe at a Convention). If you are curious about the game, you may want to look at the video from Eric (Dice Tower).
Playing it gave me the chance to get the components out and organize them in the tackle box that Ura got for me. It is amazing how easy it may be to set it up now that things look more organized.
See you at the next regularly scheduled game night March 26 or at any other gaming event that we can find ourselves in between now and then.
Please remember that Randy is trying to organize a game event for Saturday March 30th (International Tabletop Day). It has been suggested to do it at Legends & Comix in Maynard, MA (he is trying to get the venue to host the event). Contact him for more details or ways in which we can help him. More information about this on the Guild.
